Angela Smith
I support people to recalibrate as they navigate their divorce journey — and the lawyers who guide them.
Hi, I’m Angela, the two things that were never in my life plan
— burnout and divorce —
turned out to be the two things that brought me exactly here.
I know. Not exactly the origin story you'd expect. But stay with me.
When I burned out in my mid-30s, I was having grand mal seizures. I ended up in the emergency room (several times). My body, in the most dramatic way possible, forced me to stop and pay attention. The irony — in my work with a chronic disease organisation - I promoted healthy, active living. I didn't feel stressed — I absolutely loved every aspect of my work, and I was energised by it — I just didn't know when to stop. I was so committed that I became consumed.
And then, years later, divorce. The life quake that can strip away the future you had planned and leave you asking questions you never expected to be asking — Now what? Who am I now? What are my priorities and goals now? Plus, experiencing what happens when a family lawyer burns out. The consequences can be devastating. Think about it - in time, a lawyer may recover from burnout. Whereas their client may not recover from their inability to execute from a place of unwellness.
These experiences gave me something I couldn't have found any other way: a deep, embodied understanding of what it takes to move through a life quake and come out the other side grounded, clear, and with a different perspective on how I want to do life.
When it comes to divorce and family law, I realised there are two streams requiring support: the people whose relationships are changing shape, and the lawyers who are advising them.
From then on, Mind Your Mojo became laser focused on supporting the family law ecosystem.
That's what I bring to all things Mind Your Mojo. Not theory. Hard-earned wisdom.
Mind Your Mojo
Where Vitality Meets Possibility in the Family Law Ecosystem
Mind Your Mojo operates across two integrated pathways — because in the family law world, the wellbeing of lawyers and the wellbeing of their clients are deeply connected.
When clients rely on their family lawyers for more than legal advice, and lawyers burn out, everyone loses.
Who I work with and Why
Family lawyers + Law firms
Legal professionals who are feeling the weight of their caseload, noticing the early (or not so early) signs of burnout, and want practical, evidence-based support to stay well and practise sustainably. And firms that are ready to invest in the wellbeing of their people as a core business strategy, not an afterthought.
People navigating divorce
People who are ready to move beyond surviving and start to intentionally create a meaningful next chapter — with clarity, confidence, and even excitement about what's ahead.
If you're a family lawyer who's quietly running on empty, or someone wondering what your life looks like from here — you're exactly who I'm here for.
Why
Divorce can be one of the most stressful life events a person can experience. It doesn't just disrupt your living arrangements — it can disrupt a person’s identity, sense of stability, and vision of the future. The people going through it need more than legal advice. They need support to process, stabilise, and start finding their footing again.
At the same time, the lawyers who expertly advise their clients, need to be well (physically and mentally) in order to practice to the best of their ability. Burnout doesn't just hurt the lawyer — it potentially ripples out to every client they’ve been engaged to advise. In time, a lawyer can recover from burnout, but not necessarily so for their client.
When lawyers maintain their mojo, clients get their lawyer at their best.
When clients have their own dedicated coach, they can be calm and focused, enabling lawyers to focus on doing their best legal work.
The whole ecosystem benefits.
When I’m not helping you to Mind Your Mojo
I mind my mojo with:
Adventures – travelling wherever, whenever. My most recent adventure spanned four countries and included hiking, cycling, yoga, and raising a glass of champagne with great friends when the sun went down.
Animals – a bona fide Crazy Dog Lady. I was proudly under the paws of two Dalmatians for many years. Now, you'll find me hanging out with other people's dogs — Cedric, Billy, Lucy, and Millie are my current pack, and I love cats, too – all animals, really.
Beachside – walking, talking, meditating, toasting Happy Hour – grateful to be at the beach.
Laughing – a firm believer that a good sense of humour is non-negotiable when you're doing serious work.
Music – “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.” (Plato). I LOVE listening to live music – reggae, classical, rock – bring it all on!
Yoga + Meditation – as a certified teacher of both, I’ve been practising for decades. Poses are movement, yoga is life.
