My Story
I’ve been where you are – and I know the way forward
Sometimes life has a wicked sense of humor. Picture this: I’m running around promoting healthy, active living, when BAM – I burned out so spectacularly that I ended up in the hospital having had grand mal seizures (repeatedly). The irony? Not lost on me. The lesson? Boundaries, anyone?
That was more than 25 years ago, but it wasn’t my last dance with burnout. A few years back, I experienced what I now refer to as my “life quake” – a combo of divorce, the death of my grandmother (who raised me), housing uncertainty, and financial insecurity all hit at once. I refer to that time as “when the cheese slid off my cognitive cracker.”
During the worst of it, I couldn’t even make coffee safely. Friends would bring me new moka pots each Saturday, knowing I’d somehow managed to destroy the previous one. My brain just couldn’t put the pieces together. I finally had to take away my own coffee privileges until I could function again.
It’s taken a few years – way longer than I expected, but only as long as I needed – for aspects of life post-quake to come into alignment. Now, making coffee in my Italian moka pot each morning is a celebration of how far I’ve come.
From Personal Crisis to Professional Purpose
Those face-down-in-the-dirt experiences? They became my greatest teachers. Having walked through burnout and divorce myself, I can meet people exactly where they are – not from a textbook, but from lived experience.
After my divorce, I invested heavily in myself, spending 15 months training to become a Certified Business and Personal Coach, earning membership with the International Coaching Federation. This included intensive training with world-renowned experts like Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, focusing on trauma, the mind-body connection, and healing.
But my journey with wellness started much earlier. I’ve been practicing yoga and meditation for over 40 years, and I’m accredited by Yoga Australia and the Meditation Association of Australia. I regularly participate in an international community of practice focused on cross-cultural wisdom from Indigenous and Shamanic traditions.
Taking the Woo-Woo Out of Wellbeing
Don’t worry – I’m not going to suggest you manifest your way out of a legal settlement or breathe away your burnout. My approach is grounded in both ancient wisdom and contemporary science. I believe in practical tools for real change, delivered with a healthy dose of humour and zero spiritual bypassing.
Mind Your Mojo is about sustainable wellbeing for people in high-stakes environments. Whether you’re navigating divorce or preventing burnout as a legal professional, my work focuses on four key domains: social, emotional, cognitive, and physical ‘presilience’.
A Unique Ecosystem of Support
What makes my practice different? I work with both sides of the family law equation. I support individuals through divorce recovery while also helping family lawyers stay well and focused in their demanding work. This creates a unique referral ecosystem where lawyers can access burnout prevention programs while knowing they have a trusted divorce coach to support their clients’ emotional journey.
My Philosophy in Action
Integrity: I’ve walked these paths myself. When I talk about rebuilding after divorce or recovering from burnout, I’m not speaking from theory – I’m sharing hard-won wisdom.
Trust: Creating a safe, non-judgmental space where people can explore what feels like the messiest time of their lives, and biggest fears without having to manage anyone else’s emotional response.
Accountability: I’ll hold you accountable to your goals, just as I hold myself accountable to whole heartedly showing up, even when it means admitting I once couldn’t safely operate a coffee pot.
Beyond the Professional
I’m Canadian-born, Melbourne-based, and easily lured out of my cave for good caffeine and even better conversation. I have a soft spot for resilient plants (one has been with me since 2011 and survived three house moves within five months) and the wisdom found in Winnie the Pooh stories.
My dream? To eventually offer a retreat in Italy. It’s been delayed by, well, life – but I’m open to outcome, not attached to timeline.
The Work That Matters
Whether I’m sitting with someone who’s wondering “who am I now?” after divorce, or facilitating a workshop for lawyers learning to respond rather than react under pressure, the work always comes back to this: helping people show up as their best selves, even when life feels uncertain.
Because here’s what I know for sure: You are not just surviving whatever transition you’re in. You are evolving. And that’s not just okay – it’s exactly what’s supposed to happen.
